After the flood: the dedication of the artists
The exhibition Beyond Borders brings together a selection of documents and works of art, donated to the city of Florence by both foreign and emigrated Italian artists. They are displayed in a never-before-seen narrative, witnesses to an unparalleled event.
The works were donated in response to a public call sent out by Carlo Ludovico Ragghianti for the establishment of an International Museum of Contemporary Art, which symbolically repaid the injuries inflicted by the flood on the city’s historical-artistic heritage. Among the artists who personally answered the call were Abe Nobuya, Ho Kan, Adja Yunkers, Emilio Pettoruti, Alberto Magnelli, Ibrahim Kodra, Fritz Wotruba, Daphne Maugham Casorati, Genni Mucchi, and Edita Broglio. In the years immediately following, other collections were added, including those of the Cuban Artists and the Cultural Centre of Belgrade, represented here, respectively, by the works of Amelia Pélaez, Lolò Soldevilla, Rita Longa, and by Mica Popović, Vera Bozicović Popović, Branimir Micić.
The program of initiatives includes a series of meetings on themes such as the reconstruction of historical-artistic context, international relations in the 1960s, and the value of solidarity among the people.
The invitation-only inauguration will take place on Thursday, November 3rd, from 7pm to 9pm.
