The Mud Angels
“Even to the most cynical and the most torpid people will soon be clear […] that henceforth anyone will no longer be allowed to be sarcastic on beats. Because this same youth […] today has given […] a wonderful example, moved forward by the joy to be of use, to lend its strength and enthusiasm for the salvation of a common good. Honour to the beats, honour to the Mud Angels.”
Giovanni Grazzini (Corriere della Sera)
Dear Mud Angels,
After the gathering held on November 4, 2016 for the 50th anniversary of the Florence flood, we would like to use your stories to continue to encourage new generations to prize and protect the same values that you have demonstrated with such spirit.
To accomplish this, we’re going to start with the creation of an official list of Mud Angels which will be published on our website. The aim is to then, through social media, create an extended community, evidence of your principles of solidarity, which should remain common heritage.
Were you among those who “reached Florence from every part of Tuscany, Italy, Europe and the world to bring life and art back to the Cradle of the Renaissance” or, in the flooded areas and the adjacent neighborhoods, were you among those who strove to help not only themselves, but everyone who needed help? If you were among the Mud Angels, fill out the form below and you will be inserted in the official list.
To stay informed, you can follow our Facebook fanpage at this link. You can also share your thoughts, images and stories on the Facebook group “Angeli del Fango” (find it here) or send documents, photos and testimonies via our website here.
Toscana Firenze 2016 is also on Instagram, an ideal social network for conserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of photographs of the 1966 flood. The official hashtag for Twitter and Instagram is #Alluvione50.
The official list of Mud Angels is part of the Progetto ANGELI, which was announced in this letter to the mud angels by Giorgio Federici.
